1) Why should someone see a Chiropractor?
If you have pain that is not improving with your current self-care or treatment strategies, or you have a problem specifically related to your back, neck or spine, see if chiropractic care can help. Don't wait until you have surgery to try chiropractic care. Once you have surgery, you are stuck with the results. Try chiropractic care first because it offers non-drug, non-surgical approaches to some really debilitating and chronic conditions.
2) How does JointCare Chiropractic differ from other health care clinics?
1) Corrective and Maintenance Care (i.e. Preventative care)
- To reduce stress of the body
- To aid in the avoidance of repetitive strain injuries
- To increase one's quality of life
2) Relief Care (i.e.Pain reduction care)
- A non-invasive, drug and surgery free solution to health care
- Identifying the root of the problem and solving it with the use of one's hands
JointCare Chiropractic is a clinic run by a highly trained and skilled Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Alexandra Bouharevich. Her vision is to eventually expand and run a multi-disciplinary clinic consisting of several Chiropractic Doctors, Naturopathic Doctors, Acupuncturists, Physiotherapists and Registered Massage Therapists.
Dr. Bouharevich's Clinic is not the traditional walk-in clinic; one of long lines and quick solutions to one’s symptoms (i.e. pain). Instead she care's for her patient’s body to prevent pain, as well as, of course, treat the reason behind what is causing the pain or need for correction. Prevention helps to reduce stress/interference in the body, reduces the build up and detriment caused by overuse/repetitive strain injuries, and thus helps to increase one’s quality of life. As for reducing and ridding the body of pain, Dr. Bouharevich provides several drug and surgery free solutions to health care; JointCare Chiropractic identifies the root of the problem and solves it so that eventually after her care is done, the patient has the skills needed to continue maintaining a pain free and actively facilitated life.
3) How does JointCare Chiropractic do this?
Our primary goal is to enhance one’s well being with specialized health care practitioners and latest therapeutic treatments aimed to improve one’s natural state of health and wellness.
A patient is able to receive various types of care, including but not limited to, orthopedic evaluation, ergonomic testing, orthotic assessment, etc. Then an individualized treatment plan is provided. This may include manual therapy through chiropractic care, rehabilitation, nutritional support, etc.
4) What is chiropractic care?
1) A natural approach used to restore the body's optimal performance.
2) Relief care is used to treat pain, inflammation, restricted mobility and discomfort.
3) Corrective care helps to restore normal function to one's spine, muscles, supporting tissues, and the nerves affected by them.
4) Supportive maintenance care helps sustain and preserve the benefits achieved from relief and corrective care.
5) Chiropractors are trained to detect conditions in their early stages, often before one feels pain or reduced mobility.
As a Chiropractic Doctor, we are rigorously trained and highly skilled doctors that are the leading health practitioners who specialize in the neuromusculoskeletal system to help restore the body's natural and optimal function. Chiropractic care has traditionally been about using one's trained and skilled hands to lessen or eliminate many of the body's problems arising from the nervous system. What many people don’t realize is that Chiropractors undergo four years of intense training standardizing us as doctors who further specialize in a drug and surgery free solution to health care. We have the training to be able to get to the root of our patient’s issue, diagnose them, come up with an individualized plan of management and care for them with a number of skills.
5) How can Chiropractors restore function?
Treatment varies for each individual and may include but is not limited to:
1) Manual chiropractic adjustments/Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)
2) Instrument-assisted adjustments (by use of The Integrator as per Torque Release Therapy)
3) Instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (by use of Graston Technique)
4) Electrotherapy and/or Ultrasound Therapy
5) Soft tissue and trigger point therapy (i.e. Muscle release therapy)
6) Active Release Technique (ART)/Muscle release therapy
7) Lifestyle and nutritional counselling
8) Therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation
9) Custom orthotics
10)Ergonomic Assessments
Most people think of Chiropractors as only being able to provide adjustments (“cracking”/'"popping") and are practitioners who only specialize in back issues. In clinics such as at JointCare Chiropractic clinic we maintain a broader perspective on health than simply treating pain (i.e. a symptom of the problem). Essentially, we use some of the latest techniques to encourage the body to heal itself by removing obstacles to healing.
Therefore, essentially Dr. Bouharevich takes the strain off the nerves with manual chiropractic adjustments to get at restoring movement in the joints (see Spinal Manipulative Therapy/Adjustments) and use soft tissue therapy and Instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization, to name a few skills, to help with the muscles, tendons and ligaments. But again, what the average person does not know is that we also have training in and thus offer nutritional and dietary advice. As well, Chiropractors help patients to manage stress, and coach their patients in exercise, lifestyle and self-care. Of course, should Dr Bouharevich find that Chiropractic care is not appropriate for a particular patient's case, she will refer the patient out to the appropriate specialist(s).
6) Who do Chiropractors treat?
Issues Chiropractor’s treat (not limited to):
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Overuse/repetitive strain injuries
- Whiplash
- Shin splints
- Carpal tunnel
- Shoulder pain
- Sciatic pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Knee problems
- Tennis/golfer's elbow
- Self care/lifestyle management
- Nutritional coaching
- Sleep deprivation
- Arthritis
The general population believes that Chiropractors simply specialize in treating the back. Some Chiropractors might choose to specialize in this way, however, at JointCare Chiropractic clinic, Dr. Bouharevich prides herself on being a doctor who ensures that her patients have a holistic, complimentary and excellent alternative approach to their general health issues.
Dr. Bouharevich evaluates the texture, movement and tightness of one's muscles, fascia, ligaments, tendons and nerves. She then diagnoses the abnormal tissues and treats anything from back/neck pain to carpal tunnel syndrome , shin splints, headaches, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis/golfer's elbow to name just a few of the conditions that we can resolve quickly and permanently. Dr. Bouharevich has worked with many different patient populations who may require a more gentle approach. For example, she has worked with four month old infants to seniors and pregnant to post-pardum women. If you require more information or have an inquiry visit our Contact and/or Services page(s) to email us.
7) What does Dr. Bouharevich say to people who are skeptical of chiropractic care?
Each health professional has expertise for helping some people with certain problems, but not everyone with every problem. Everyone should be skeptical informed consumers about health-care. Chiropractic is a clinical service with its own limitations and risks like anything else. Dr. Bouharevich personally believes that chiropractic care saves people from unnecessary surgeries and from taking too many pain medications. Old stories persist about chiropractors treating each and every disease by chiropractic adjustments, and the public knows that is nonsense. On the other hand, when people experience improvement with their headaches and low back pain, other benefits may also occur. With less pain and stress on the body, people can exercise more, work more, and be more sociable. Life is so much better without pain.
8) What is the role of Chiropractic care in today's health care system?
Chiropractic care is one of the largest primary-contact health care professions in Ontario and is one of only five classes of health care professionals able to use the title Doctor. As such, Dr. Bouharevich hopes to advocate to her community that the expertise and skill of chiropractors in the use of biomechanics and holistic treatment, for physical conditioning and pain management, can help patients reduce or avoid, as the case may be, the need for invasive surgery and prescription drugs.
